David Via Obituary

David Anthony Via, age 70 of Boiling Springs, went to be with his Lord on April 24, 2025 after a courageous battle with a long illness.

He was the youngest son of the late H. (Tony) Anthony Via of Frostburg, Maryland and Mittie (Mickey) Mattox Walker Via of Spartanburg. He was pre-deceased by two Brothers, Sammy Walker and Bobby Walker. He was close to his nephew, Lee A Camp, who was in the habit of dropping everything when David called during the last years of his disability. They were very close. Special Thanks are due to Emery and Evan for all their love, help and support for David.

David began his professional career by working as a curb hop at McDowells Drive In, at twelve years old. He graduated from Dorman High School in 1973, from RD Anderson Vocational School and from Greenville Technical College in 1977 in Engineering Technology.

David had a brilliant mind and a natural talent with Mechanical Design and Engineering and was fluent with every computer application.

He was a Project Manager for Construction Management Group for over 20 years and supervised projects for such companies as Washington Mutual Banks, Wells Fargo Investments, HTA Travel, H & R Block, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Restoration Hardware and Discovery Channel among many other important projects. Previously, he was Engineering Manager for Auto Systems and Equipment, Inc. He also did important work for Hergeth, Inc. and for EVAC as an Application Engineer.

David was deeply passionate and committed to his Church for years. Pastor Clayton Houchins became David's closest friend. Widely known as an excellent Chef, he found great joy in cooking and serving for a church group called SALT, Senior Adults Doing Life Together. In fact, one week to the day before he deceased, he cooked an eighteen pound prime rib for this group. David spent many, many hours developing Architectural drawings for the future Church building and completed the final drawing only days before passing away. He was affectionally referred to as the "icon" of Church 247. He was called "the perfect picture" of what the Church offers to everyone, unlimited grace and mercy. He believed in the mission and vision and brought many friends to visit his Church. Pastor Clayton Houchins commented "David will leave a huge hole in our Fellowship. He will be greatly missed at Church 247".

David was beloved by his family, friends and fellow Church members.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Shannon Kodi Via Addis; a sister, Caregiver and Executrix, Judy Via Camp (Ralph); four Grandsons, Nathan Wallace, Andrew Addis, Emery Bowling (Taylor) and Evan Bowling; his beloved Aunt Nell Burnett; and close, longtime companion, Anne M Garner.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday May 10, 2025 at 6:00PM officiated by Reverend Clayton Houchins at Church 247, located at 316 Pathway Court, Spartanburg, SC 29307
