Donald Eugene Hill

**Updated Memorial Service Information**

Mr. Donald Eugene Hill, age 88 of Winston-Salem, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Lakewood Assisted Living in Boiling Springs, SC.

He was born on March 5, 1935 in Forsyth County, NC to the late William and Carrie McGee Hill. He attended R. J. Reynolds High School where he earned 8 varsity letters in three sports and was the signal caller and blocking back on the 1952 NC state champion football team. His senior year, he received the Brevard Hoover Memorial Award. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on an athletic scholarship. After graduation, he signed a minor league contract with the St. Louis Cardinal baseball organization. He had also served his country as a Sargeant in the Army as an active reservist. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Marie Hundley and spent 68 years together. He retired as Senior Vice President with Piedmont Federal Savings Bank (formerly Piedmont Federal Savings and Loan) with almost 35 years of service. He was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine H. Womack (Oscar), Billie H. Brady (Col. William D.), and Alice H. Stewart (Col. Neil G.)

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Dorothy M. Hill; his son, Gregory W. Hill (Kay); three grandsons, Nathan (Madison), Benjamin, and Ellison; and one great-grandson, Thomas Cecil McCoy Hill.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 11:30am at New Philadelphia Moravian Church in Winston Salem, NC. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium.

The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall of the church with light refreshments being served. 

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to New Philadelphia Moravian Church, 4440 Country Club Road, Winston Salem, NC 27104 or to the Forsyth County Humane Society.
