It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Mr. James H. "Jim" Buhl, age 61 of Chesnee, passed away on Sunday evening, September 7, 2025 at his residence surrounded by family, faith, and love.
Jim was born on October 20, 1963 in Knoxville, TN to the late Robert "Bob" and Jean Milligan Buhl. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where his late father, Robert "Bob" Buhl pastored for many years. He was part of the COBRA Flight 351st Missle Security Squadron and a deputy with Knox County Sheriff's Department for nearly 2 decades. He enjoyed working with heavy equipment and was an avid outdoorsman. Jim was affectionately known as "Papa Jim" to his granddaughters, Ella and Abby Cudd and lived a life rich in love, service, and spirited loyalty to people, country, and to the Tennessee Volunteers. A true patriot, he served his country with pride and humility, believing deeply in the values of freedom, honor, and responsibility. That same devotion extended to the people in his life. Jim was a friend to many and the kind of person who never met a stranger. He had a heart that opened easily, a hand always ready to help, and a laugh that filled every room. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and fierce loyalty to family, country, and "Rocky Top." Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of the Lord.
Jim was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School. While attending college, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served 8 years. While serving, he was stationed in Germany for three years with the B Flt. 36th Security Police Dquadron. He was transferred to Bei Rut, Lebanon following the bombing of the U.S. Marines barracks that killed 220 marines, 18 sailors, and 3 soldiers. He was later sent to Operation Desert Shield and Storm. While in Tennessee, Jim worked as a licensed contractor and was a vital part of historical building restoration in downtown Knoxville. Working on buildings such as the Tennessee Theater and teh famous S&W Cafeteria. He was sent to Europe to visit and study the architecture of restaurants and pubs for the purpose of building a restaurant that replicated the London Underground System known as the Crown and Goose. After the passing of his mother, Jim returned to the upstate to take care of his Dad for the rest of his years. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Beth.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Beth Crumley Buhl; two daughters, Jessica Jones (Duane) of Inman and Tara Pruitt of Hendersonville; two stepsons, Caleb Cudd and wife Ashley and Nathan Cudd, all of Union, SC; granddaughter, Cadence Pruitt; grandson, Anthony Pruitt; and two brothers, Robert Buhl, Jr. (Glenda) and William "Billy" Buhl; and his nephew, Robbie Buhl (Angela) of Chesnee.
